This
year’s Material Culture module required doing more than research and an essay
but also a practical piece which reflected the theories of the essay. My essay
was based on fashion and communication and how this effects and is reflected in
clothing. I started with an existing male jacket and shirt and modified it to
reflect both stereotypical elements of masculine and femininity. In order to do
this, I had to take apart the jacket and put it back together using the excess
fabric as decoration.
